Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do my own photocopying at the WCER Copy Center?

No, the Copy Center is not self-service. However, the Copy Center staff will do small copying jobs while you wait.

How much lead time does my copying job need?

The amount of lead time you need varies according to the workload of the Copy Center. Simple jobs can often be done while you wait. More complex jobs may take overnight, or even a few days. The beginning of the semester is an especially busy time; call to make reservations for larger jobs, if possible.

How much does a copy cost?

A single photocopy, one-sided, black and white, on white 20# paper costs 5 cents. Multiple copies of the same page would be 4 cents (or less) a copy. Additional surcharges apply for special stocks and other options such as binding. Labor fees (by the tenth of an hour) apply for hand collating, cutting and folding. Because each job is unique, it's impossible to list all the different pricing options. See the Copy Center staff for pricing information.

Can I bring in my personal copying for you to do? (My recipe collection, for example)

Yes, personal copying is charged the same rate as other copying. The only difference is that it is low priority, and jobs will be completed as time allows. Sometimes a few days lead time is necessary. You can pay in cash or by check..

Remind me of the copyright laws.

The copyright law of the United States (Title 127, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

I want to use a special paper that you don’t carry. Can you order it for me?

The Copy Center can only order paper by the case. They can order special paper for you, and bill you for the case, but you must store the unused paper. Because of space restrictions, the Copy Center can’t store partial cases of different kinds of specially ordered stock. If you supply your own paper, please bring it to the Copy Center in the original ream wrapping or box. Not all papers are compatible with all copiers, and stock can be damaged by humidity or other environmental factors. The Copy Center reserves the right to refuse stock that is in poor condition.
